The Job


As a Protocol SW Engineer, you will be part of a team consisting of 20 colleagues and reporting into Cobham Satcom's Global Software Team for Systems, based in Kgs. Lyngby. This position can be based at Cobham Satcom's headquarters in Kgs. Lyngby or at the office in Aalborg in northern Jutland.

As a Protocol SW Engineer, your key responsibilities will be:
  • Design and development of new protocol software stacks and associated algorithms for use in satellite communication networks.
  • System design and detailed design of software subsystems/components.
  • Extension and re-design of existing protocols, code restructuring to fit added requirements.
  • Coding, integration, test and switch into operation of SW.
  • Test automation, designing and scripting automated tests using Jenkins.
  • For experienced candidates and Team Lead aspirants, overseeing a team of both internal and external staff implementing protocol stacks and associated SW.
  • Maintenance, debugging, and bug-fixing of protocol systems.
  • Build-up and maintenance of internal test environments, automated and manual tests.
  • Planning and execution of test activities, both internal and onsite test campaigns – compliance testing to specifications and performance testing of protocols.
  • Training of the customer's technical organization to understand the protocol stacks and SW organization.
  • Tools: Git, Jenkins, GCC, C/C++, Make, General Open Source, Jira, Wireshark and Enterprise Architect.
     

Your Qualifications


As a Protocol SW Engineer, your qualifications should ideally be:
  • An educational background within Software, Bachelor's or Master's level, but other educational backgrounds combined with SW experience will also be considered
  • Experience with complex SW environments. It is important that you want and can work with large SW complexes spanning over different platforms and operating environments. You must be able to maintain an overview of such systems and you must have the skillset to systematically debug them
  • You must be well familiarized with the C++ 14/17 programming language
  • You must have a well-grown sense of quality in all working relations – our solution needs to be working well once released into an operational environment
  • Preferably, you have experience in or at least have some knowledge of communication protocols used in the telecommunication sector
  • Experienced in a Linux development environment. 
     

The Domain

 

Satellite antenna and terminal development provides the opportunity to engage with various technologies and concepts including network stacks, communication protocols, proprietary hardware interfaces and mechanical solutions, Linux applications and open-source packages, cyber security, real time operations and mathematical algorithms etc. Cobham Satcom's equipment needs to interface and comply with several 3rd party products which together with the requirements of the end-users and regulatory constraints set some challenging objectives.

The work is done in cross-functional software teams with a flavour of scrum, which is continuously being improved. Cobham Satcom benefits from a modern development pipeline of source control and configuration, automatic build and test systems, code review and project tracking based on Git, Bitbucket, Docker, Jenkins and Jira.
