The Job

The SW team is getting too big for our current Software Manager in the infrastructure group, and we need to split the team into two. You will be managing a team of 12-18 engineers and computer scientists. The successful candidate will have proactive communication, so individual team members remain aware of the timing and delivery expectations placed upon them. You will be part of the Global Software Management team and work, which includes 5 additional Software Managers. This role reports into the Senior Director R&D, Global Software. The split between people management and product responsibility is around fifty-fifty. This role is based in Kgs. Lyngby, just outside Copenhagen.

As a Software Manager your main responsibilities will involve:

  • Drive our roadmap for improved use of software tools

  • Improve and document software processes

  • Driving changes and improvements daily such as developing and promoting engineering processes and best practices including design reviews, code reviews, test driven development and continuous integration

  • People management (salaries, performance reviews, development plans to further the team’s professional development, hiring, etc.)

  • Working with Project Managers to develop and enforce a supportable delivery schedule based on agreed priorities and business requirements

  • Working with senior leadership in the development of team and company strategy, and the maintenance of company culture

  • Ensuring effective and open communication throughout the software team and with stakeholders

Your Qualifications

As a Software Manager your key skills and qualifications will ideally include:

  • Bachelor or Master in an engineering discipline (telecom, computer science, electronics, or similar)

  • Experience leading Agile software teams, including people management

  • Profound knowledge of the SCRUM methodology, including theory, rules and practices

  • Solid experience managing software development

  • Experience with requirements management

  • Preferably a background from software development from the telecom industry

  • Experience with modern DevOps tools (Jira, Bitbucket, Jenkins, GIT, etc.) and Test-Driven Development

  • Understanding the fundamentals of iterative and incremental development

  • Good people manager background - coaching, motivating, developing career plans for software team members

  • Strong knowledge of stakeholder management

  • Strong understanding of software development practices such as environment management, release management, code versioning best practices, and continuous deployment methodologies.

The Domain

Satellite antenna and terminal development provides the opportunity to engage with various technologies and concepts including network stacks, communication protocols, proprietary hardware interfaces and mechanical solutions, Linux applications and open-source packages, cyber security, real time operations and mathematical algorithms etc. Cobham SATCOM's equipment needs to interface and comply with several 3rd party products which together with the requirements of the end-users and regulatory constraints set some challenging objectives. The work is done in cross-functional software teams with a flavour of scrum, which is continuously being improved. Cobham SATCOM benefits from a modern development pipeline of source control and configuration, automatic build and test systems, code review and project tracking based on Git, Bitbucket, Docker, Jenkins and Jira.
