Famsun’s primary focus is to develop more efficient and effective methods of processing food, pet food, animal feed, aqua feed, and others. The equipment lineup of the company includes grinding, mixing, extrusion, pelleting, drying, cooling, enrobing and conveying equipment.

For Famsun’s global R&D organisation, we are looking for an R&D Director for Extrusion Design with experience in producing mechanical equipment designs, particularly extruders.

You will be part of a global multi-cultural company with headquarters in Yangzhou, China and R&D centers in Kansas City in the US, Kolding in Denmark and Oldenburg in Germany. Famsun has sales offices around the world selling and servicing their feed factories. Your place of residence could be anywhere in Europe, Asia or the US. You can work from your home office and be linked to Famsun’s office either in Yangzhou, Kansas City, Denmark or Germany.

Your key tasks

As the R&D Director, you will be responsible of producing original mechanical equipment designs. With your team, you will design extruders and other equipment from concept through delivery. Your key tasks and responsibilities will be as below:

• Manage a team of 7-8 R&D engineers (direct reports)
• Deliver new equipment innovation grid in partnership with Process Engineers and Product Developers
• Ensure all designs are engineered to meet national and international codes, standards, and regulations
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings or computer-generated reports
• Use drafting tools or computer-assisted design software (3-D)
• Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
• Utilize mechanical design expertise, in collaboration with process experts, to develop comprehensive solutions   
• Research and Development of new products
• Improve existing equipment
• Assist in building and commissioning the prototype
• International travel

Your competences

Being the ideal candidate, you are expected to have:

• 10+ years of experience in designing extruders or similar industrial equipment primarily for the food, pet food or animal feed industry
• If you have less years of experience, you must be able to clearly illustrate your expert capabilities
• Min. bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
• Fluent with 3D design software such as Autodesk Inventor
• Keen knowledge of metallurgy and heat treatments
• Knowledge of fluid power systems (Hydraulics and Pneumatics)
• Knowledge of Steam Systems
• Good communication skills

Furthermore, it will be an advantage if you have experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and a stable work history.
