For FAMSUN’s European R&D organisation, Landau Headhunting is now looking for a Global Head of Compliance to lead the transformation and upgrading of Famsun’s existing equipment to comply with CE and ATEX standards.

 

The position

As Famsun’s equipment continues to expand into the European market - particularly in the feed, pet food, and related processing industries - we are seeking a highly experienced mechanical design expert with deep knowledge of European regulations and engineering practices.

This role will serve as a key technical position within Famsun’s European R&D organization, responsible for leading the transformation and upgrading of existing equipment to comply with CE and ATEX standards, while benchmarking against leading European manufacturers and driving systematic product optimization and localization.

This role will be one of the first key hires in Europe, working closely with senior leadership to build market presence from the ground up, engage top-tier clients, and define how solutions are delivered to the European market.
This is a top‑level expert role, aimed at attracting one of Europe’s strongest compliance experts related to Famsun’s business areas. This is not a traditional people‑management position, but a global authority role, where influence is driven by expertise, credibility, and technical leadership rather than formal hierarchy. Famsun will, however, support you in building your own Europe-based team. 

You will operate across R&D, product development, market support, and strategic customer engagement, working closely with global teams and key customers.
You will join a global, multicultural organization headquartered in Yangzhou, China, with R&D centres located in Kansas City (USA), Aarhus (Denmark), and Düsseldorf (Germany). The Famsun Group operates sales and service offices worldwide.
Your employment will be with either the German or the Danish R&D centre, and you will have the flexibility to work remotely, from your home office or a nearby office location. Therefore, your place of residence may be anywhere within Europe. You will report to Famsun's Director of R&D in Europe as well as to the Famsun Group President of R&D in China.

 

Your key responsibilities

Your key tasks and responsibilities in this role will be as below:

CE/ATEX Compliance Design & Review

• Lead the design and verification of equipment in accordance with CE requirements, including but not limited to: Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU
• Organize and conduct risk assessments using methodologies such as HAZOP and FMEA
• Define safety levels, risk mitigation measures, and compliance pathways (e.g., Category / Zone classification)

Explosion Protection Design & Optimization (ATEX)

• Design and optimize solutions for dust explosion environments (typical in feed, grain, and powder processing industries), including:
  • Explosion-proof structural design
  • Explosion isolation systems
  • Explosion venting and suppression systems
• Perform ATEX-compliant design adaptations for key equipment such as grinders, mixers, conveying systems, and dryers
• Define internal and external hazardous area classifications (Zone 20 / 21 / 22)

Localization & Upgrade of Existing Equipment

• Conduct gap analysis between existing (China-standard) equipment and European regulatory requirements
• Develop CE/ATEX compliance upgrade solutions, covering: Mechanical structure, Electrical interfaces, Materials and sealing, Surface treatment and Hygienic considerations
• Drive implementation of design changes in collaboration with R&D, manufacturing, and supply chain teams
• The existing equipment consists of hammer mill, pulverizer, mixer, coater, pellet mill, extruder, dryer&cooler, sifter, conveyor, screw press etc.

Technical Documentation & Certification Support

• Prepare and review technical documentation (Technical File), including:
  • Risk assessment reports
  • Instruction manuals (in accordance with EN standards)
  • Declaration of Conformity
• Support audits and certification processes with third-party bodies such as TÜV, DNV, etc.

Industry Benchmarking & Technology Integration

• Benchmark against leading European equipment manufacturers such as Bühler Group and Andritz AG
• Introduce advanced design concepts, including:
  • Hygienic Design
  • Safety-by-Design
  • Modular Design
• Support new product development to ensure “CE/ATEX compliance by design”

Internal Capability Development

• Provide CE/ATEX training and technical guidance to China-based R&D teams
• Establish internal design guidelines, standards, and checklists
• Promote structured design processes such as Design for Compliance

You can expect some travel to China, as it is required for coordination with R&D teams and production bases. The role also involves participating in exhibitions, forums, and customer technical support activities according to business needs, with travel not exceeding 100 days per year. In addition, you will maintain frequent communication with the headquarters’ R&D teams through a combination of online collaboration and business travel.

 

Your professional profile

We are looking for an internationally recognized expert with deep, hands‑on experience in mechanical design 
You ideally bring:

• Bachelor’s degree or above in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• Minimum 8 years of industrial equipment mechanical design experience
• At least 5 years of hands-on experience in CE/ATEX design or certification
• Preferred background: Prior experience with European industry-leading equipment manufacturers (e.g., Bühler, Andritz etc.)
• Fluent professional English

Technical Competencies: 

• In-depth understanding of European regulatory frameworks and standards, including:
  • Machinery Directive / EN ISO 12100 (Risk Assessment)
  • ATEX standards (EN 60079 series, etc.)
• Experience with equipment used in powder, feed, grain, or food processing industries is highly preferred (e.g., grinding, mixing, extrusion, conveying, drying)
• Proven track record of delivering end-to-end CE compliance projects (from design to certification)
